In Muller’s metal cut-outs, he pushes his method of indirect painting ever further. Enamel drips are frozen in perfectly free gestures only to be reborn by machine in static metal. The artist then takes the shapes back and returns the gentle touch of the human hand.

The dichotomy between intuitive process and machine-made repetition reflects Muller’s constant battle with the past and the future. We are left with a very delicate but sometimes incomplete representation of our present. The perfect mirror for today’s mind…

Mulldings & Mullairplanes is the artist’s attempt, post-9/11, to recapture what he sees as our most beautiful invention and reinstall it as a symbol of harmony and brotherhood.
